Description There are three varieties of Dachshund: the short-haired, the wired-haired, and the long-haired. Each of these varieties have three different sizes. The Dachshund has short legs and a long body. They have and alert and intelligent facial expression. | ||
Size Normal Dachshund are 14-18 inches tall and weigh 20 pounds. Miniature Dachshund are up to 14 inches tall and weigh 9 pounds and Toy Dachshund are up to 12 inches tall and weight 8 pounds. | ||
Coat There are three varieties of Dachshund, short-haired, wired-haired, and long-haired. This breeds coat should be shiny, sleek and uniform. | ||
Color Dachshunds come in a variety of colors including; black & tan, chocolate & tan, cream, red, wheaten, wild boar and black | ||
Temperament The Dachshund is clever, lively and courageous. They are also affectionate, curious and mischievous. They like to dig. | ||
Care The long-haired Dachshund require daily combing and brushings. The wire-haired Dachshund should get trimming twice a year. The smooth-haired Dachshund require regular rub down with a damp cloth to remove excess hair. | ||
Exercise This breed has a good amount of stamina and loves to go on walks or playtime at the park. | ||
Training All varieties of Dachshunds are slightly difficult to train. | ||
Shedding The Dachshund is an average shedder. | ||
Barking & Howling This breed will bark and it is loud for their size. | ||
Life Expectancy A well cared for Dachshund can live 12 to 15 years. | ||
Health The Dachshund are prone to spinal disc problems and can become over weight and lazy. | ||
