Description
There are three varieties of Dachshund: the short-haired, the wired-haired, and the long-haired. Each of these varieties have three different sizes. The Dachshund has short legs and a long body. They have and alert and intelligent facial expression.


Size
Normal Dachshund are 14-18 inches tall and weigh 20 pounds. Miniature Dachshund are up to 14 inches tall and weigh 9 pounds and Toy Dachshund are up to 12 inches tall and weight 8 pounds.


Coat
There are three varieties of Dachshund, short-haired, wired-haired, and long-haired. This breeds coat should be shiny, sleek and uniform.


Color
Dachshunds come in a variety of colors including; black & tan, chocolate & tan, cream, red, wheaten, wild boar and black


Temperament
The Dachshund is clever, lively and courageous. They are also affectionate, curious and mischievous. They like to dig.


Care
The long-haired Dachshund require daily combing and brushings. The wire-haired Dachshund should get trimming twice a year. The smooth-haired Dachshund require regular rub down with a damp cloth to remove excess hair.


Exercise
This breed has a good amount of stamina and loves to go on walks or playtime at the park.


Training
All varieties of Dachshunds are slightly difficult to train.


Shedding
The Dachshund is an average shedder.


Barking & Howling
This breed will bark and it is loud for their size.


Life Expectancy
A well cared for Dachshund can live 12 to 15 years.


Health
The Dachshund are prone to spinal disc problems and can become over weight and lazy.
